With the variety of customers we work with at BoldtSmith Packaging, we discover a wide variety of packaging situations. Two scenario’s we consistently see however are product damage during shipping and high packaging costs.
One of the reasons we started the business was a trend we saw in the packaging world. This trend was companies utilizing their packaging suppliers to complete the design and testing for new product introductions. One of our goals with the business was to fill this role providing unbiased packaging designs for our customer’s. We do not sell or broker packaging, we provide a service to design, test and implement the best possible packaging solution!
For example, if our customer requests us to optimize the packaging for doors shipping into a big box retailer. This system may include the retail packaging on the product and also the shipping crate the product ships on into the store. Some of the materials we could potentially utilize for the designs are listed below.

Shipping Crate
Does one packaging supplier manufacture and sell all the materials listed? Packaging suppliers provide expensive solutions utilizing the material they sell. We provide the best possible packaging solution to our customers utilizing any and all packaging materials.
Our typical process would have us complete the design, create a financial analysis of all options and compare variables such as material cost, freight cost, labor cost, damage cost, etc. This allows us to make data driven decisions on the best possible packaging solution.
After the list of packaging concepts is narrowed, we will complete transit testing that represent the actual hazards the product will experience in shipping. This process allows us to pick a design that minimizes the risk of damage whiles still remaining cost efficient!
